I got a message about a week and a half ago from Stu, who has the YouTube channels Total Angling Experience and Coon Creek Outdoors. He said,
“Not sure what the biggest fish ever caught on one of your rods is, but I just got back from a trip to Missouri this weekend snagging spoonbill. Used your rod exclusively to livescope them and got one 82lbs.”
Under this message was a picture of him holding a huge spoonbill, or paddlefish!
Needless to say, I was thrilled that he was successful using one of my rods to handle such a monster!
For those of you who may not know, “Livescope” is a Garmin sonar/fishfinder product that basically lets you see the fish in real time, in unbelievable detail, without scrolling as a normal fishfinder does. He used this system to find, track, and finally snag the ancient behemoth on Lake of the Ozarks, tracking him over long distances and extended time before finally using my rod to send a treble hook down over 35 feet, snagging and then fighting the beast back to the boat! This is a very unique style of fishing that frankly, I have never heard of, and it goes to show that even the most experienced anglers still have plenty to learn. But enough of me carrying on about it, here’s the video.
